　　1. contrive v. 谋划;图谋;设法想到;

　　contrive to do sth. 设法做某事;(不顾困难地)促成某事

　　manage to do sth 也表示设法做某事，说的时候已经成功做到，而contrive to do sth

　　通常说的时候还没有实行。

　　It was said that Osama bin Laden contrived to attack four cities of America

　　before he died.

　　据说本拉登死前计划袭击美国四个城市。

　　2. converge v. 会合;聚集;

　　converge on 集中于

　　The two rivers converge here.

　　两条河流在此相交。

　　3. cordial a. 热情的

　　cordial 的近义词还有passionate，hospitable，enthusiastic 等。

　　The president received a cordial welcome on his visit in Canada.

　　总统在加拿大访问期间受到了热烈的欢迎。

　　4. corrupt a./v. 腐败的;腐蚀;

　　The corrupt officials will be punished one day!

　　那些腐败的官员总有一天会受到惩罚!

　　词汇扩展：跟腐败相关的词汇~ corruption n. 贪污 bribe v. 行贿 accept /take bribe 受贿

　　5. cozy a. 舒适的

　　cozy 是美式拼法，cosy 是英式拼法，二者意思一样，它的同义词是comfortable。

　　I dont want to leave the cozy room.

　　我不想离开这么舒服的房间。

　　6. counterpart n. 对应的人或物;副本;对应物;

　　counterpart funds 配套资金 counterpart talks 对口会议 counterpart staff 对应工作人员

　　Only with the counterpart of the contract will it works.

　　7. criterion n. 标准

　　criterion 的复数形式即为criteria，standard 也表示标准，他们的区别如下：

　　criterion 正式用词，指判断、批评事物的标准，但不一定是规章。

　　standard 指公认为决定事物质量或人的品质的准则或原则。

　　measure 与standard 基本同义，但多用于比喻，指衡量某事物的质量准则。

　　Practice is the sole criterion for testing truth.

　　实践是检验真理的唯一标准。

　　8. curb v. 控制;约束

　　同义词有restrain、restrict 等。

　　curb 还可以表示路边。

　　curb 也可作名词，如curb on sth 起控制 (或限制)作用的事物 curbs on price of commodities 抑制物价的措施

　　I have to curb my appetite to keep diet.

　　我得抑制食欲保持身材。

　　9. cynical a. 愤世嫉俗的;悲观的

　　cynic n. 愤世嫉俗者;悲观者，怀疑者

　　She is more cynical about life for the influence of this novel.

　　因为这部小说，她变得更加愤世嫉俗了。

　　10. dazzle v. 眩目(美貌、技能、知识等)使赞叹不已

　　The sunlight dazzles me.

　　阳光很刺眼。
