　　1. Approaching the City s Central Labor Union that summer, he proposed a holiday that would applaud the industrial spiritthe great vital force of every nation.

　　【译文】与城市中央工会接洽的那年夏天，他提议设立一个节日来弘扬每个国家的重要力量-工业精神。

　　【析句】主句he proposed a holiday, that would applaud... 作holiday的定语从句，句前的Approaching the City s Central Labor Union是现在分词作时间状语，相当于when he approached, 注意approach此处是接洽、商谈之意。

　　2. On September 5 his suggestion bore fruit, as an estimated 10,000 workers, many of them ignoring their bosses warnings, left work to march from Union square up Fifth Avenue to 42nd Street.

　　【译文】九月五日，他的建议初见成果。大约一万名工人不顾老板的警告，离开岗位参加了从联合广场向上沿第五大道到42街的游行。

　　【析句】主句his suggestion bore fruit, 原因状语从句as an estimated...workers left work to march..., 其中，many of them ignoring their bosses s warnings是前后两句主语相同且动作为主动，可省略后句主语，现在分词作伴随。

　　3. With socialists demanding an end to wage slavery and anarchists singing the praises of the virtues of dynamite, middle of the roaders like Samuel Gompers and McGuire seemed attractively mild by comparison.

　　【析句】主句middle of the roaders seemed attractively mild by comparison, 简单句，with socialists demanding an end to...and anarchists singing the praises...是with引导伴随状语。当前后主语不同，动作为主动，可在伴随句子前加with，动词加ing，变成伴随状语从句。注意与现在分词引导的伴随状语相比较。
