　　Argument是GMAT写作考试中的重要部分，也是考生们重点拿分的一类题型。在通常情况下，GMAT考试中的长篇题目比较容易完成，但是如果碰到短题目，却会让很多考生感到棘手。那应该用什么方法应对GMAT写作考试中的短题目呢?

　　下面这道题目是GMAT官方指南中Argument的示范题目：

　　The following appeared as part of an article in a daily newspaper:

　　The computerized onboard warning system that will be installed in commercial airliners will virtually solve the problem of midair plane collisions. One planes warning system can receive signals from anothers transpondera radio set that signals a planes coursein order to determine the likelihood of a collision and recommend evasive action。

　　Discuss how well reasoned . . . etc。

　　这道题只有两句话，首句为论点，末句为论据，是一篇典型的短题目。有些考生的思路是：

　　原作者没有提供足够的证据表明这套新系统能够有效避免撞机，只是简单说明系统功能，不具有论证效力，除非有更多实验证据证明能够避免撞机，才能使得结论合理。

　　或者是：

　　原作者没有告诉我们是不是所有的飞机公司都愿意安装这套系统，所以，如果有些公司没有足够的费用购买这套系统，那么撞机也很难避免。

　　按照以上这类思路进行批判的话，没能切中要害，因为，所有的Argument题目都存在着证据缺乏的错误，但是笼统的说缺乏证据是不够的，需要结合题目细致的进行分析和批判。

　　针对这道题目，我们首先要找到最核心的因果关系，也就是系统与撞机之间的关系，然后，把题目中所有的界定成份分别纳入相应集合，就可以清晰的进行有针对性的批判：

　　system midair plane collision

　　 warning

　　 onboard

　　 computerized

　　 commercial airlines

　　 signal course

　　 determine likelihood

　　 recommend evasive action

　　如上表，system有7个界定，这7个界定都是重要的得分点：

　　warning只是警告，如果飞行员没注意到，还会相撞;

　　onboard机载设备不具备强制性、权威性，飞行员可以选择是否执行;

　　computerized计算机可能会失灵;

　　commercial airlines没有排除与军队飞机或私人飞机相撞的可能性;

　　signal course指示出路线，不等于两架飞机能够选择正确的避让路线;

　　determine likelihood确定可能性，不等于降低或消除可能性;

　　recommend evasion action建议避让动作，不等于采取避让行动，而且对方避让动作是否能够配合也是问题;

　　First, if the cause of the problem of midair plane collisions is that pilots are not paying attention to their computer systems or flight operation, the warning system will not solve the collision problem。

　　Second, If the pilot or flight specialist does not conform to what the warning system suggests, midair collision will not be avoided。

　　 computerized计算机可能会失灵

　　The argument also does not address what would happen in the event that the warning system collapses, fails, or does not work properly。

　　 commercial airlines没有排除与军队飞机或私人飞机相撞的可能性

　　Finally, if planes other than commercial airlines are involved in the collisions, the problem of these collisions cannot be solved by a warning system that will not be installed on non-commercial airlines
