　　Thousands of shooting stars（流星） provided（提供） a dazzling（使人眩目的） light show that amazed veteran（老手） and novice（新手） stargazers（看星星的人） alike（同样地） as the Leonid meteor shower（狮子座流星雨） made the moonless sky appear to rain light. 　　The meteors are called Leonids because they appear to come from the direction of the constellation Leo（狮子座）. Astronomers（天文学家）expect another such shower in 2099.

　　小词as用处多

　　虽然只有两个字母组成，as却是纵横语法界的多栖词呢！

　　1、做介词。

　　介词，顾名思义，就是起介绍作用的词，它表示的是词与词，词与句之间的关系。比如： between（在之间），

　　The relations between the two countries has improved since then.

　　两国的关系从那以后得到了改善。（between把relations和the two countries联系在了一起。）

　　as做介词，意思是作为：

　　He doesnt like people treat him as a child.

　　他不喜欢人们把他当小孩子对待。

　　（而且，在翻译时，介词的含义通常是隐含其中，不必特别指出。）

　　2、做连词。

　　跟介词类似，连词的作用也是充当桥梁，不同的是，连词不只连接词与词、词组与词组，还能把句子与句子连接起来。

　　本文的第一句话：Thousands of shooting stars provided a dazzling light show that amazed veteran and novice stargazers alike as the Leonid meteor shower made the moonless sky appear to rain light.就包含as这个连词，它引导的句子你找到了吗？对了，就是as the Leonid meteor shower made the moonless sky appear to rain light.

　　再来看几个含有as的句子，请你辨认一下，哪一个是介词，那一个是连词，好吗？

　　As he wasnt ready in time，we went without him．

　　因他未及时准备好，我们没有等他就走了。

　　The old woman was dressed as a young lady.

　　这位老妇人打扮得像一位年轻人。

　　分辨出来了吗？第一句，as引导了一个句子As he wasnt ready in time，说明了我们没有等他的理由，做了这个复合句的原因状语，这里的as是连词；第二句，as后面跟着短语a young lady，这个as是介词。（你答对了吗？）

　　再来看一个句子怎么样？

　　He looks as ill as he sounded on the phone．

　　他的样子和他在电话中说话的声音反映的病情是一样的。

　　这里有两个as，怎么分辨？呵呵，别着急，等一下告诉你。

　　3、做副词。

　　根据我们前面的判断方法，很明显，第二个as引导了一个句子as he sounded on the phone，所以它是连词。He looks as这里，look是动词，as作为修饰动词的词，也就是副词，意思是同样，一样。（当然，如果实在很难懂，不必强记，了解as也可以做副词即可。）

　　再来看一个例子，体会一下：

　　He recited as much of the poem as he could remember．

　　他把诗中记得住的都背诵出来了。

　　（recite是动词，asas的整个句子都是修饰它的。）
