RIO DE JANEIRO, July 16 -- The Sao Paulo soccer club announced on Saturday the signing of head coach Adilson Batista.
The coach signed a contract to lead the team through the remainder of the 2011 season and replaces Paulo Cesar Carpegiani who was fired 10 days ago.
Sao Paulo had previously linked with a handful of coaches before approaching Batista. On Friday, the former head coach of the Brazilian national soccer team, Dunga who reminds unemployed since the end of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, declined the offer to coach Sao Paulo.
Adilson Batista was recently released as head coach of Atletico-PR. If he is able to produce a satisfactory result, the coach will have the opportunity to extend his contract until December of 2017.
Batista will observe the match between Sao Paulo and Internacional on Sunday evening in order to become better familiarized with his new cast of players. The new head coach will be officially presented to the media and fans on Monday, July 18.
