BERLIN, May 18 -- Hamburg forward Eric Maxim Choupo Moting was transferred to Mainz on a three-year contract, the club confirmed on Wednesday.
Back in the winter transfer period, Choupo-Moting, 22, wanted to depart from Hamburg before a faulty fax machine prevented the transfer in time.
The 22-year-old youngster forward and Cameroonian international made 23 official matches and three goals at his last club Hamburg.
"Eric Maxim is a player with an exceptional potential. He combines many features that distinguish a very good offensive player. He is technically adept, strong, and has a great finish," Mainz coach Thomas Tuchel said.
Mainz astonished the whole German Bundesliga with a stunning 5th position last season.
"I am definitely convinced that I made the right decision. The sportive perspective of the team is great. I have been watching the development of Mainz very closely," Choupo-Moting said.
