在2016年电视评论协会冬季周六媒体发布会（1月16日）上，FX首席执行官约翰·兰德格拉夫（John Landgraf）透露了《冰血暴》第三季的一些信息。
第三季将于2017年播出，背景设定在2010年。第三季中也会保留以往《冰血暴》的一名成员。
兰德格拉夫说：“就我目前所知，制作人诺亚·霍利（Noah Hawley）的构思中有一位保留角色。但这样不能说明他不会改变主意，留下一个以上的角色。不过我还不能告诉你要留下的是哪个角色。”
在被问到《冰血暴》第二季的飞船情节时，兰德格拉夫将其和第一季中鱼儿从天而降作比较。
兰德格拉夫说：“我想霍利认为《冰血暴》要回归科恩兄弟的电影创作主旨——上帝的随机行为或在本质上原因不详、极其特别的现象放在宇宙范围看是十分微小的。这就是《冰血暴》的全部内容。你可以回想到空中落鱼……我想他在第二季中用到飞船和外星人就是对第一季的某种呼应。”
