　　Video Games

　　Video games are becoming more and more popular in China in recent years. Almost everywhere you go, you will not fail to find people, both children and adults, keenly playing various kinds of video games at clubs, stores, or homes.

　　Why are video games so popular? Because they have many benefits. In the first place, video games are a kind of new, attractive and enjoyable entertainment. They will make us refreshed and energetic, and provide us with lots of fun and excitement. Secondly, video games can improve our ability to respond quickly, and help make us attentive and patient. When we play video games, our brains, muscles, eyes and hands must work together in order to win. Thirdly, when several people are playing are the same game, it helps to nurture team spirit in us, because we have to cooperate closely so as to play well. Last but not the least, video games stimulate children s interest in electronics and computer science.

　　Video games could do us harm without our knowing it. If proper attention is not paid to their side effects. First, violent video games such as killing and fighting are not appropriate for children to play, because they are no good to their healthy upgrowing. Second, some of us, especially school children, become addicted to video games and waste too much time playing them. Indulging in video games at the expense of our work or study not only harms our eyes and health, but also adversely affects our work or school performance. Worse still some people even go so far as to gamble in video games. Obviously only by doing away with the side effects of video games can we truly benefit from them.
