　　Jim Carrey gave girlfriend Renee Zellweger a pricey（贵重的） diamond（钻石） ring, but the two are calling it a friendship ring.

　　Buzz is building that it is, in fact, an engagement（订婚） ring. Even before the two went public with their romance（恋情）, which began on the set（拍摄现场） of Me, Myself, and Irene, wedding rumors（谣言） were in the air.

　　Diamonds are still a girls best friends, it seems, even if theyre given in the name of friendship.

　　金凯瑞送给女朋友芮妮泽尔威格一枚昂贵的钻戒，（Jim Carrey gave girlfriend Renee Zellweger a pricey diamond ring）但两人将这枚钻戒称为友谊戒指。（but the two are calling it a friendship ring）

　　舆论界认为，（Buzz is building that it is）事实上那就是定婚戒指。（in fact, an engagement ring）

　　buzz表示嗡嗡的声音，以及类似的各种声音，通常都是噪音。而这里指的是流言。Build是建造的意思，流言能建造什么呢？它传来传去，就形成了一种舆论，（尽管这种舆论可能与事实相符，也可能不符）所以Buzz is building that it is可以理解为舆论界认为。

　　go public是公开、曝光的意思，可能是处于自愿，也可能是迫于压力，看看下面这句话：Simone was thrilled that she and Chad could finally go public with their relationship.（Simone很兴奋因为她终于可以公开和Chad的关系了。）呵呵，你能理解这两个人对于go public的不同感受嘛？

　　在这段中，which began on the set of Me, Myself, and Irene作为非限定性定语从句修饰前面的the two went public with their romance.

　　In the air有在空中的意思，比如：A plane is flying in the air.（一架飞机正在空中飞翔。）关于婚礼的谣言in the air，就是指谣言充斥在空气中。

　　其实舆论界的这种推测并非没有道理，因为，甚至在他们两人的恋情公开之前（Even before the two went public with their romance）他们是在拍摄Me, Myself, and Irene时公开的，（which began on the set of Me, Myself, and Irene）就已有传闻说两人将谈婚论嫁。（wedding rumors were in the air）

　　看起来，（it seems）钻石仍然是女孩们的最爱，（Diamonds are still a girls best friends）即便是以友谊的名义赠送的也无关紧要。（even if theyre given in the name of friendship）

　　in the name of：以的名义，在西方这个短语最常用的情况就是：in the name of God 以上帝的名义，如：Stop doing that, in the name of God!（看在上帝的分上,别干了!）

　　这个短语在使用的时候，通常带有强烈的感情色彩，而且倾向于贬义，因为打着旗号去做的事，往往干的都是挂羊头卖狗肉的勾当。比如：cruel animal experiments that are carried on in the name of science以科学名义进行的残酷的动物实验

　　另外这个短语还有for the reason of （为缘故）之意，如：I said that just in the name of getting a good job.（我那么说仅仅是为了得到这份好工作。）
