　　In addition相当于副词，通常放在从句的句首，后面接完整的句子。例如：

　　This garden has the best collection of native plants. In addition, it contains numerous trees and flowers from overseas.

　　这座花园有当地植物的最佳珍藏。另外，它还有无数来自海外的花草树木。

　　许多词可以和它替换，如：additionally，furthermore，besides.

　　选美（beauty contest），是一个让人兴奋的词，是几乎每个女孩子的梦想。今天，我们就来聊聊这个话题。

　　美国人把选美称作pageant，并把它定义为beautytalents contest（美与才能的比赛）。但主办者、参赛者和观众都明白，才能云云其实并不重要，因为Pageant这个词的原意就是华丽的游行、露天历史剧、毫无意义的表演，带有浅薄的意味。

　　选美的结果是产生了各种荣誉称号，最光辉夺目的当然是冠军（winner），美国人叫Miss America，香港人叫Miss Hongkong，以此类推，环球小姐当然就是Miss Universe.幸运之门从此对获奖者打开，她们常常得到在电视、电影和广告等各种领域的发展机会，不少人成为明星（Super star），从此踏入了上流社会（the upper class）。
