　　The American concept（观念） of love and romance begins with dating. At first they might have group dates with several boys and girls together. Later, they start going on single dates-just one boy and one girl. Sometimes a boy and a girl will go to a movie. Maybe they will go to a party at a friends house. Or they might go out to eat.

　　Americans view（看待） dating differently from people in other cultures. American young people see a date as a time just to have fun. They dont always have a romantic interest in mind. Someone may go out with one person this week, and another person the next. After a while, a boy and a girl may decide they want to go steady.（稳固的） This means they think of each other as boyfriend and girlfriend. It also means they dont want to date anyone else. Romance is beginning to bloom.

　　Romantic love is very much a part of American culture. Movies, TV shows and books in America all picture（描绘） people falling in love. Americans know that no romance is perfect, but still they try to find the ideal（理想的，完美的） person.

　　爱情是美国文化的一大部分，（Romantic love is very much a part of American culture）美国的电影、电视和书都刻画人们坠入情网的事，美国人知道沒有一个爱情是完美的，但他们仍旧试图寻找理想伴侶.（Americans know that no romance is perfect, but still they try to find the ideal person.）

　　这里的picture是描绘的意思，比如：

　　The painter pictured the general sitting on a horse.

　　画家给骑着马的将军画像。

　　此外，在头脑中描绘也可以用picture，也就是想象的意思，比如：

　　Can you picture Bill dressed as a fairy?

　　你能想像得出比尔扮作仙女的模样吗?

　　在口语中，see可是一个出镜率极高的词，人们常说的I see.意思就相当于I understand.类似的例子还有很多，比如：

　　有时候，为了引起别人的注意，see（升调）也很好用：

　　You mix the flour and eggs like this, see.

　　See还有consider的意思，所以see sb/sth as sth就是把某人或某事看作的意思，比如，Jake是一个小气的老公，因此：

　　Jake saw any man who spoke to his wife as a potential threat.
