The bar counter （柜台）is possibly the only site in the British Isles in which friendly conversation（交谈） with strangers is considered entirely（完全地） appropriate（适当的） and rea1ly quite normal（正常的） behavior（行为）.

　　The trouble is that if you do not follow the local（当地的） rules, the experience may fall flat. For example, if you are in a big group, it is best if only one or two people go to buy the drinks. Nothing irritates（使恼怒） the regular（固定的） customers and bar staff（酒保） more than a gang of（一群） strangers blocking（阻塞） all access（通道） to the bar while they chat and dither（犹豫） about what to order.
