　　　　2004 年《南通市高三调研考试》卷子里，有这样一道题：

　　　　Mrs Black went back to _________ place ________ she had found the diamond.

　　　　A. the same， where B. the same， as

　　　　C. the same， that D. as the same， as

　　　　答案是 B .可是在张道真编的《现代英语用法词典》 P1231 same 词条中有这样的例句： He went back to the same place where he had found the ring. 在这个句子里， the same 是 place 的定语， where 引导的是一个修饰 place 的定语从句。南通试卷里的这道题和这个例句如出一辙，所以我认为选项 A 也不错。

　　　　下面我们探讨一下 same 的用法。

　　　　一 . same 前面通常要加定冠词 the .例如：

　　　　at the same time； all the same； just the same.

　　　　They arrived here on the same day.

　　　　二 . the same as / to /with 的用法。

　　　　1. the same as 意为和一样，与 be different from 的意思相反。例如：

　　　　Your opinion is the same as mine.

　　　　不能说： Your opinion is the same as me / I.

　　　　2. the same to 意为对于是一样的。例如：

　　　　He has been always the same to me.

　　　　在情景对话中， the same to 经常用来回复别人对自己表示的祝愿。例如：

　　　　－ Happy New Year！

　　　　－ The same to you.

　　　　3. the same with 意为表示也一样。例如：

　　　　（ 1 ） It is the same with men as with plants.

　　　　（ 2 ） One should speak clearly and it is the same with writing.

　　　　三 . the same + 名词后面的定语从句通常由 as / that 引导。

　　　　1. the same as 意为正如一样， as 的先行词可以是人也可以是物。

　　　　2. the same that 强调是指同一个人或事物。例如：

　　　　This is the same pen as I bought yesterday.

　　　　这和我昨天买的笔一样。

　　　　This is the same pen that I bought yesterday.

　　　　这就是我昨天买的那支笔。

　　　　She is the same girl that came yesterday.

　　　　昨天来的就是这个姑娘。

　　　　as 和 that 在定语从句中作宾语时，也可以省去。例如：

　　　　He wants to buy the same coat I wore yesterday.

　　　　四 . the same as 中的 as 除了可用作关系代词，在从句中充当主语、宾语、表语外，还可用作关系副词，在定语从句中作状语。例如：

　　　　（ 1 ） I shall do it in the same way as you did it.

　　　　（ 2 ） Meet me at the same place as you did yesterday.

　　　　五 . same 作定语修饰先行词时，该名词后面除了可以接 who， that， as 引导的定语从句外，还可以接 where， when， which 等引导的定语从句。例如：

　　　　（ 1 ） He got there at the same time when I did.

　　　　（ 2 ） Put the book back in the same place where you found it.

　　　　（ 3 ） We met at the same park， which we visited two years ago.

　　　　（ 4 ） The caller is the same man who was here yesterday.

　　　　（ 5 ） He went home， the same evening that he heard the news.

　　　　（ 6 ） We drove out of the town by the same road as we had entered by.

　　　　六 . 在 the same ＋名词后面跟定语从句，而且从句的谓语动词与主句的谓语动词相同时，从句中的谓语动词常常省略。如果后面的定语从句是省略形式，则需用 as 引导。例如：

　　　　（ 1 ） They do the same work as I （ do ） .

　　　　（ 2 ） Your idea is the same as mine （ is ） .
