From now until July is the best season to watch the ISS flying over the earth. And people can see it with just their eyes.

Sixteen countries are part of the program: the U.S.A., Russia, Canada, Japan, Brazil and 11 European countries.

China is not an ISS country, but it has helped with some of the experiments. In 2003, China sent some rice up to the ISS to find out what space would do to it.

Life on the earth depends on the sun. Day after day we see its light and feel its warmth. The sun is far away from the earth. It is ninety-three million miles away from the earth.

The sun is a large star. The earth is very small among its planets. Every day the sun sends out a great deal of heat and makes us feel hot. But we receive only a small part of the heat, because the sun is so far away from us and its heat loses most of its energy when it reaches the earth. We also receive a very small part of its light. This is enough for the growth of trees, plants and human beings. On the other hand, much light and heat would be harmful to them.
