At the tender age of 13 or 14, children are selected and pushed into examination classes which will effectively decide their futures. Then , at the age in their lives when most of them are least receptive to learning, they are force to sit exams where the penalties for failure are as final as the death sentence.
The lives of secondary school children are ruled by these exams in this country. Some schools do offer a wide range of interesting subjects, but only for those who have already been labeled as failures. So parents continue to push, pull, threaten and force their children through exams, or search anxiously for schools with high standards to do the pushing and forcing for them, because this is what our universities demand.
Talking about why I chose this major, I think the reasons are pretty simple. The priority reason is, you know, I am a big fan of it. I think doing it can make me stand a bigger chance of grabbing an ideal job after I graduate. Another reason pops into my head if, I think , doing this major can make exert my potential into full play. One more reason I can think of is I can get a huge sense of satisfaction and achievement every time when I get some assignments done well.
I think there are quite lots of difficulties in studying English. The first difficulty jumps into my mind is the way English people talk is totally different from the way we Chinese talk. Another difficulty I can think of is the grammars are too complicated. One more difficulty pops into my head is culture shock might be a problem as well. And you know, to those guys who are not that linguistically-talented, I think learning English is nothing but a pain in the neck.
Learning English can always make my day. In terms of any suggestion on how to learn English, I think as opinion varies a lot from people to people, so do ways of learning English. You know, some guys think reading, reciting, writing and listening to tapes without taking any break are the coolest way to learn English, but I believe that would ruin your passion towards English. Anyway, there is no way for me to study like that. Because I will be getting bored and feeling frustrated. And it usually ends up that I never touch any thing about English any more. So when it comes to my way of learning English, I prefer to learn it in an active way. Say, hanging out with foreigners and imitating the way they talk or imitating it from some original English movies, sitcoms and so on
