Up for grabs是个常用的习惯用语，grab的意思是“抓、抓到。Up for grabs指的是货物、商品等东西现在还没有归属，所以想要的人都可以竞争。下面我们来看一个例句。

Mary工作的公司里最近有人退休，空出了一个职位。Mary的朋友提醒她赶快申请：

例句-1：Hey Mary, are you applying for Bill's job? I remember you telling me last week how he had the best job in the company. Well, now that he's retired, his job is up for grabs. You should go for it!

嗨，玛丽，你是不是在申请比尔那个职位呀?记得你上个星期对我说，在整个公司里就属他的工作最好。现在比尔退休了，大家都可以竞争他的职位。你应当争取呀!

Up for grabs原本形容的是打球时的场景。当球在空中的时候，双方球员都有机会去抢球，所以我们说，it's up for grabs。
