retire “退休”。

what I heard “我听说的事”。

That’s not the way I heard it.

I sure heard it differently.

sure “确实”。differently “不同”、 “不一样”。

我听说了。

(她不去纽约了。)

That’s what I’ve heard.

(我听说了。)

这里的That’s是That is的缩写， That指的是听说的事情。

That’s what they tell me.

I heard that.

消息已经传开了。

The news is out now already.

(消息已经传开了。)

We were hoping to keep it quiet for a while.

(我们本来还希望能保密一段时间的。)

out “传开”、 “被公布”。

keep it quiet “保密”。

The news is already out.

The news broke already.

这里的break指“传开”、 “传遍”。

你可以公开我的话。

Do you really mean that?

(你说的当真?)

You can quote me on it.

(你可以公开我的话。)

quote “引用”， 直译是“关于这件事你可以对别人说是我说的”。

What I said is on the record.

(我说的话可以公开。)

on the record “公开发表”、 “记录下来”。

This is for the record.

反意为：What I said is off the record.

(我说的话不得发表。)
