in one’s shoes “站在……的立场上”、 “设身处地”。

serve ... right “给……应有的报应”。习惯用语， 表示“活该”、 “ 自作自受”。

reputation “名声”、 “名气”。wheeler-dealer 常带有轻蔑的含义， 指“ (生意或政治上)为所欲为的

(他是一个工于心计的商人。)

have many irons in the fire是习惯用语， 表示“同时做很多的事情”。直译是“他把很多的铁放入火中”。

be involved in ... “卷入……”。

不是因为他聪明， 而是因为他勤奋。

smart “聪明的”。diligent “勤奋的”。
