名词所有格单独使用的情况

　　名词所有格单独使用的情况有两种，具体是哪两种呢?

　　1. 习惯性省略：当所有格所修饰的名词表示教堂、商店、诊所、某人家、某人办公室等时，所有格后的名词有时可以省略。如：

　　It was a modern jeweller’s. 这是一家现代化的首饰店。

　　We had a great evening at Paul’s. 我们在保罗家度过了一个愉快的夜晚。

　　I’ve just come back from the dentist’s. 我刚看牙回来。

　　“Where’s Jenny? “She’s gone to the butcher’s.“詹妮在哪儿?“她去肉店了。

　　She bought a bottle of vitamin tablets at the chemist’s. 她在药房买了一瓶维生素片。

　　You can’t go to London without visiting Harrod’s. 你不能去了伦敦而不去参观哈罗德百货商店。

　　They were married in St Bartholomew’s. 他们是在圣巴塞洛缪大教堂结婚的。

　　2. 承前省略：即根据前文语境省略后文中所含的不言而喻的名词。如：

　　I’ll go in Frank’s cat and you can go in Alan’s. 我坐弗兰克的车去，你可以坐阿兰的去。

　　The man shortened his paces to match the child’s. 那男子把步子放慢，以配合孩子的步伐。

　　He is buried in a grave next to his wife’s. 他被埋在妻子的坟旁。
