HANOI, Oct. 16 -- AFC U-19 Women's Championship 2011 wrapped up in Vietnam's southern Ho Chi Minh (HCM) City on Sunday, with Japan holding the trophy, followed by DPR Korea and China.
The top three will participate in 2017 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup in Uzbekistan.
Japan comfortably claimed the AFC U-19 Women's Championship title as Kumi Yokoyama grabbed a hat-trick to highlight a 6-0 victory over host Vietnam at Thong Nhat Stadium on Sunday, wrapping up the tournament with three top teams as Japan (13 points), DPR Korea (12) and China (8).
Meanwhile DPR Korea boss Sin Ui-gun was pleased to see his side end their AFC U-19 Women Championship campaign on a positive note following an impressive 4-0 victory over China earlier in the day.
China also had an outside chance of lifting the trophy but the defeat put paid to any hopes of that occurring. Instead, they had to settle for third place but enjoyed the consolation of also booking their ticket to the U-20 World Cup next year.
"Because we have domestic league matches when we get back to China, the players were maybe afraid of getting injured or something," said China boss Yin Tiesheng. "They did not dare to attack and defend so the result is not so good. DPR Korea took advantage of their power and they have a very strong sense of teamwork.
One of the final three games on Sunday also witnessed South Korea's victory over Australia in 4-2 scores.
AFC U-19 Women's Championship 2011 kicked off in Vietnam's southern HCM City from October 6-16 showing games in a round robin format by players from Australia, China, Japan, South Korea, DPR Korea and Vietnam.
