体坛英语资讯：Andre joins Atletico-MG

RIO DE JANEIRO, July 19 --- The club president of Atletico-MG, Alexandre Kalil, announced on Tuesday that striker Andre will be the club's newest reinforcement for the remainder of the 2011 Brazilian Championship.

The 20-year-old is expected to help the team out of a bleak situation in this year's competition.

Andre gained his fame and received international attention for his performance with Santos in 2010. At the end of last season, the player was transferred to the Ukraine's Dynamo of Kiev and later to the French team, Bordeaux.

The details of Andre's contract with Atletico-MG were not revealed. Andre returns to Brazil off a loan from Dynamo of Kiev. It appears that Kalil was quicker and more persuasive than Flamengo's president, Patricia Amorim, who previously expressed the club's intent in acquiring Andre.

Due to Andre's performance with Robinho, Neymar and Paulo Henrique Ganso, which led to the 2010 Sao Paulo state championship as well as the 2010 Brazilian Cup, Andre caught the attention of the world. His supporting role helped to earn his a spot on the Brazilian national team's roster during head coach Mano Menezes's first days as head coach.

Atletico-MG currently stands in 15th place with 10 points after 10 rounds of the Brazilian Championship. The national championship consists of 38 rounds and is a running-point tournament, crowning the top-four finishers a spot in the 2017 Libertadores Cup.
