WASHINGTON, June 19 -- Rory McIlroy of Northern Ireland won the 111st US Open at the Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Maryland, on Sunday.
The 22-year-old won the title with a tournament record 16-under-par total of 268, carding a final round of 69 to win by eight strokes from Jason Day of Australia who closed with a 68.
It was McIlroy's first win in a major.
