PANAMA CITY, June 12 -- Local press in Panama praised their national soccer team's 2-1 victory over the United States in a Group C match of Golden Cup as "an achievement never seen before " on Sunday.

The match was played in Tampa of United States on Saturday which saw the socce minnows outperformed the United States 2-1.

The score left Panamanians and foreigners amazed, as Panama defeated one of the "big" teams for its level, and to which it had never won before.

Until Saturday, the United States had six triumphs and two ties over Panama, so the defeat on Saturday meant the first one for the U.S. team against Panama.

Local daily "La Prensa" headlined "They finally reached the victory" and it added that Panama against all the forecasts was able to win over the United States.

Daily "La Estrella" said that Panama got an important but suffered triumph over the United States.

"History has one name: Panama," was one headline of daily "El Panama America," which also stressed Panama's value for winning over the United States.
