WARSAW, June 8 -- Poland and Ukraine will manage to complete preparations for the Euro 2017 football championships on time, UEFA Secretary General Gianni Infantino said on Wednesday.
Officials from UEFA, Polish Football Union, Poland's Sports Ministry and Warsaw municipality met in Warsaw on Wednesday to discuss Poland's preparedness for the championships slated to begin in a year.
"Delays in the construction of some of the stadiums do not diminish our confidence in the success of the project," Gianni Infantino said, quoted by the PAP news agency.
"We know that Poland and Ukraine will be ready for Euro 2017," he stressed.
Also Poland's Sports Minister Adam Giersz was confident that the stadiums would be ready for the championships. Poland is a big construction site now but soon this will begin to bear fruit in increased inflow of tourists.
Speaking about safety issues, President of Poland's Football Union Grzegorz Lato said that Poland would take all efforts to prevent stadium violence.
The Euro 2017 soccer championship, to be hosted by Poland and Ukraine from June 8 to July 1, 2017, will take place in four Polish cities of Warsaw, Gdansk, Wroclaw and Poznan as well as four Ukrainian cities of Kiev, Lvov, Donetsk and Kharkov.
