RIO DE JANEIRO, June 5 -- Continuing his physical rehabilitation after undergoing knee surgery late last month, Sao Paulo striker Luis Fabiano promised on Sunday that he will return to the field and prove his critics wrong.

Sidelined by the injury since March, the player is expected to return to the field in August.

Despite Sao Paulo's fans initial excitement with the news of Fabiano's return, the fan base became irritated with the news that the player was unfit to play due to a previous injury in his right knee.

The player returned to Brazil from Spain's Sevilla aware that his knee was injured. The Sao Paulo medical staff opted to wait to see if the injury would self correct. However, nearly two months after the player's signing, the club decided to administer an operation in order to correct the problem; a ligament on the outside of his right knee.

According to Fabiano, he intends on proving all of his critics wrong and promises to hush the mouth of those critical of his return to the team. The striker is expected to return to action in the early part of August. However, a specific date has yet to be defined.
