ACCRA, May 11 -- The Ghana Football Association (GFA) on Wednesday expressed its deepest condolence to the family of Michael Dzibogodzi Agormor who died during a league match on May 9 at the Tema Sports Stadium, 30 kilometers east of here.

The 25-year-old footballer, who played for Tema-based True Democracy Football Club in Ghana's third-tier league, reportedly went for a tackle during the match and lied motionless for some moments without medical attention.

The medical team, which was not readily equipped with the necessary first aid, only poured iced water on him and fanned him with his jersey to resuscitate the upcoming star but all to no avail.

He was later rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

"Michael Dzigbodzi was a young and ambitious footballer who met his untimely death whilst pursuing his professional dreams. The GFA mourns with the family of Michael and True Democracy Football Club in this period of grief, the FA said in a statement published on its website.

"We pray that the good Lord grants Michael eternal rest," the statement added.

The deceased was a graduate of the Polytechnic at Ho, about 165 km east of the capital.

Similar incident occurred last year in the elite league when a 19-year-old Bartholomew Yeboah, who played for premier league side Kessben FC in Kumasi, Ghana' s second largest commercial city about 270 km north west of here, died at the Korle Bu Teaching Colleage after complaining of dizziness during league match.
