BOGOTA, May 30 -- Costa Rica international striker Jose Ortiz has parted ways with Millonarios after the Colombian club declined an option to secure him on a permanent deal.
Ortiz confirmed on social media that he will return to Costa Rican first division side Herediano, 10 months after joining Millonarios on loan.
"Due to the situation we are experiencing worldwide, [Millonarios] decided not to exercise a purchase option," the 27-year-old said in an Instagram post on Saturday.
Ortiz scored 10 goals in 20 appearances for the Bogota-based club, including nine in his first 14 matches.
Colombian football was suspended on May 13, two days after the World Health Organization declared COVID-19 a global pandemic.
Clubs have been given government permission to resume training in the second week of June and competitions are expected to resume in July or August.
