BERLIN, June 3 -- Frankfurt recorded a second straight victory after substitute Stefan Ilsanker scored twice to edge relegation threatened Werder Bremen 3-0 in a postponed Bundesliga 24th round fixture on Wednesday.
The "Eagles" scored all three of their goals in the second half to increase Bremen's relegation worries.
Both sides staged a rough first half with many fouls which disrupted the flow of the match. Bremen had the first chance with 15 minutes played when Davy Klaassen hammered a loose ball on target to test Frankfurt goalkeeper Kevin Trapp.
Frankfurt lacked in penetration and posed no threat meanwhile Bremen created another clear-cut opportunity in the closing period of the first half as Trapp had to stretch to defuse Fin Bartels' shot on target.
After the restart, Frankfurt gained a foothold in the clash and thought they had opened the scoring in the 58th minute but Dominik Kohr's goal was ruled offside.
Two minutes later the ball crossed the goal-line again and this time the goal stood as Andre Silva nodded home Filip Kostic's cross to open the scoring at the hour mark.
Bremen kept all their men behind the ball as Frankfurt assumed control. Mijat Gacinovic should have doubled the lead but his solo run and effort was just wide of the target in the 72nd minute.
The visitors kept the pace and doubled their advantage in the 81st minute when substitute Ilsanker, who came on 20 seconds earlier, tapped home a flicked-on corner to mark his maiden Bundesliga goal.
Ilsanker remained in the thick of things and reaped his brace eight minutes later after heading home Jonathan de Guzman's free kick to seal the deal in the 90th minute.
With the result, Werder Bremen remain stuck in the relegation zone in 17th, meanwhile Eintracht Frankfurt jump to 11th.
"Based on the second-half performance it is of course a deserved victory for Frankfurt. We played very well in the first half but we made too many mistakes after half time," Bremen's head coach Florian Kohfeldt said.
"Both teams wanted to win today. Bremen took over but after the restart we grabbed the reins and paved the way for the win," Frankfurt's head coach Adi Hutter said.
