我家的一件珍品

我家有一件珍品，它并没有多贵重，也不怎么引人注目，它只是一本字典，一本再普通不过的字典。

There is a treasure in my family. It's not very valuable and it's not very eye-catching. It's just a dictionary. It's no ordinary dictionary.

这本字典原是很多年前外公买给正在上小学时的母亲的，它虽已经历了二十余年，但仍保存得十分完好，封面上“新华字典”四个字仍然清晰。

This dictionary was originally bought by my grandfather many years ago for my mother who was in primary school. Although it has gone through more than 20 years, it is still well preserved. The four words "Xinhua Dictionary" on the cover are still clear.

我上学之前，就很喜欢读书了。那时，我有很多词弄不明白，于是外婆便经常拿起这本字典帮我查。我也天真的以为字典上一定有魔力，帮助我弄明白每一个词。

Before I went to school, I liked reading very much. At that time, I couldn't understand many words, so grandma often picked up this dictionary to help me look it up. I also naively thought that there must be magic in the dictionary to help me understand every word.

后来，我上学了，学会了如何查字典，也明白了更多词的释义。但我不再与外公、外婆同住。虽然我们每周末去看望外公、外婆，但却怎么也寻不回儿时的感觉，唯有那本字典像老朋友似的与我一起读书写字陪我度过了一段美妙的时光。

Later, I went to school, learned how to look up a dictionary, and also understood more words. But I no longer live with my grandparents. Although we visit Grandpa and grandma every weekend, we can't find the feeling of childhood. Only that dictionary, like an old friend, spent a wonderful time with me reading and writing together.
