BERLIN, Jan. 13 -- Dr. Motte, a German DJ and founder of the Love Parade, announced Monday that he is seeking to revive the famous music event in Berlin by starting a fundraising campaign.
"Through fundraising, we can find out if this is even wanted by the world," said Dr. Motte, whose real name is Matthias Roeingh, stressing that the event would be non-commercial.
Since the 1990s, the Love Parade has developed from a political demonstration for peace into a music festival well known to techno lovers around the world.
The event has been discontinued since 2010 after 21 people were killed and more than 650 others injured in a stampede during the music festival.
The upcoming event will attract hundreds of thousands of techno fans to the streets, Roeingh said, adding that it is likely to have a different name due to the purchase of the naming rights by event company Lopavent.
