LONDON, Dec. 1 -- It was a good weekend for Liverpool at the top of the Premier League as Jurgen Klopp's side survived goalkeeper Alisson's second half red card to cling on for a 2-1 win at home to Brighton and extend their lead over Manchester City and Chelsea.
Defender Virgil van Dijk had planted two first half headers past Brighton's Matt Ryan and the game looked to be under control when Alisson handled outside of his area and was sent off with just over 10 minutes left to play.
Substitute Adrian San Martin could do nothing as Lewis Dunk converted the resulting free kick, but did well to deny Aaroy Mooy what could have been a shock equalizer in the closing minutes of the game on Saturday.
Leicester City were the only side in the top four to keep pace with Liverpool thanks to a 94th minute goal from Kelechi Iheanacho that gave them a 2-1 win at home to Everton after a long VAR review on Sunday.
Struggling Everton had taken the lead thanks to Richarlison midway through the first half, but Jamie Vardy equalized in the 66th minute to set up the dramatic finish.
Manchester City dropped two more points as Jonjo Shelvey fired home from outside of the penalty area to give Newcastle an 88th minute equalizer in an entertaining 2-2 draw at home to Pep Guardiola's side.
Kevin de Bruyne, who had an outstanding game for City, looked to have given them all three points with an 82nd minute goal after Raheem Sterling and Jetro Willens both netted in the first half, but on the whole City lacked the opponent flattening intensity of last season.
Aaron Cresswell's 48th minute goal gave West Ham a shock 1-0 win away to Chelsea and eased the pressure on coach Manuel Pellegrini.
Young goalkeeper David Martin replaced Roberto in goal for West Ham, with the 20-year-old climbing into the stands at the final whistle to hug his father Alvin Martin - one of West Ham's all-time great defenders.
Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang twice pulled Arsenal back from behind to save Freddie Ljungberg from defeat in his first game in charge after being named as interim replacement for the sacked Unai Emery on Friday.
Teemu Pukki opened the scoring for Norwich in the 21st minute and Todd Cantwell netted a second for the home team in first half injury time, but the Arsenal striker showed why he is being linked to teams such as Barcelona and Real Madrid, by twice pegging Norwich back.
Dele Alli also scored twice and looked more like his own self as Tottenham continued their winning run under Jose Mourinho with a 3-2 win at home to Bournemouth.
Harry Wilson netted twice for the visitors, but by the time the Liverpool loanee got his first in the 73rd minute, Spurs were already 3-0 ahead and out of sight.
Manchester United disappointed again as they were held 2-2 at home by Aston Villa, who opened the scoring through Jack Grealish in the 11th minute only for a Tom Heaton to deflect a Marcos Rashford shot into his own goal before halftime.
Victor Lindelof headed United ahead in the 64th minute, but the home side's lead lasted just two minutes before Tyrone Mings volleyed home the final goal of the match.
Sheffield United maintain their unbeaten away record as they drew 1-1 away to Wolves thanks to Lys Mousset's second minute goal. Sheffield had chances to secure the win, but paid for their profligacy when Matt Doherty nodded home the equalizer for the home team in the 66th minute.
Crystal Palace took a 2-0 win away to Burnley with goals from Wilfred Zaha and Jeff Schlupp, while Southampton sealed a late fightback with goals from Danny Ings to beat Watford 2-1 in a duel between the sides who started the weekend bottom and second bottom of the table - and in Watford's case, remain bottom leading to the sacking of coach Quique Sanchez Flores on Sunday after just 10 games in change.
