BEIJING, Oct. 2 -- Chinese President Xi Jinping on Monday sent a congratulatory message to Julie Payette on her assuming office as Canada's new governor general.

In his message, Xi praised the development of China-Canada relations since diplomatic ties were established 47 years ago, noting the fruitful results of bilateral exchanges and cooperation in various fields, as well as their sustained communication and coordination in international affairs.

Under the current circumstances, the two countries share broad common interests and vast room for cooperation in boosting national development and addressing global challenges, said Xi, adding that there is an opportunity to further develop China-Canada ties.

China is willing to work jointly with Canada to enhance mutual political trust and expand practical cooperation on the basis of mutual respect, equality and mutual benefit, so as to lift the China-Canada strategic partnership to new heights and bring more benefits to the two countries and peoples, he said.
