PARIS, March 4 -- Florian Thauvin's goal in stoppage time earned Marseille a 1-1 draw against Nantes and one crucial point in their contention for the second position, while Lyon suffered their sixth straight Ligue 1 match without a win as they were held 1-1 at Montpellier on Sunday.

Rightback Leo Dubois put Nantes ahead with a powerful shot outside the box past Steve Mandanda in the 11th minute.

Nantes kept their advantage until the dying seconds of the match, before Thauvin managed to salvage Marseille one point as he comfortably netted home, his 16th goal of the campaign, in the fifth minute of stoppage time.

Lyon's last victory in the league dated back to a 2-1 home win against leaders Paris Saint-Germain on January 21, before the followed-up three losses and three draws badly cost them hope of catching up with second-placed Monaco.

In pouring rain away to Montpellier, Lyon saw their defense cut open easily by Jonathan Ikone's pass just seven minutes into the match, and Ruben Aguilar's cross from the right flank was swept at the far post by Isaac Mbenza.

The best chance of tying the match for Lyon arrived six minutes before the interval, only to see their forward Mariano Diaz head against the bar from a Memphis Depay corner.

Montpellier almost doubled the lead in the 54th minute, but Paul Lasne's superb strike outside the penalty area also hit the crossbar. Four minutes later, Mariano converted Houssem Aouar's left-wing cross from a close range.

Following their six-match winless streak, Lyon still trailed Marseille by five points on fourth, and their gap from Monaco has been extended to nine points.

Paris Saint-Germain, who were without several key players, maintained their 14-point lead atop the table following Saturday's 2-0 road victory over Troyes.

Earlier on Sunday, Caen beat Strasbourg 2-0 thanks to goals from Enzo Crivelli and Frederic Guilbert.
