BUDAPEST, March 25 -- Mara Navarria of Italy triumphed in the women's epee tournament at the FIE Grand Prix in the Hungarian capital Budapest, while Max Heinzer of Switzerland won the men's epee event on Sunday.
Navarria beat Lin Sheng of China 5-4 in the final. Navarria ousted Marie-Florence Candassamy from France 14-13 in the semifinals. Two bronze medals went to Marie-Florence Candassamy and Ewa Nelip from Poland.
In the men's final, Heinzer beat Alex Fava of France 15-13. Heinzer overcame Sergey Khodos from Russia 15-10 in the semifinals. Two bronze medals went to Jonathan Bonnaire from France and to Sergey Khodos from Russia.
A total of 522 fencers from about 50 countries and territories took part in the event. China sent ten women competitors, but no men.
