MADRID, July 5 -- Real Madrid on Friday confirmed the season's loan of left back Sergio Reguilon to Sevilla.
The move sees the 22-year-old reunited with Julen Lopetegui, who was Real Madrid coach from the start of last season until his sacking at the end of October.
Reguilon made 14 league appearances and 13 starts for Real Madrid in his first season with the first team squad, making most of his starts during Santiago Solari's brief spell as first team coach.
However, despite a string of impressive performances, Zinedine Zidane, who returned to the club after Solari's sacking, the Frenchman preferred Brazilian left back Marcelo and Reguilon disappeared from the team.
The arrival of Ferland Mendy from Lyon this summer means Reguilon's options would be limited at Real Madrid although the defender thanked the club for his opportunities with a 'goodbye' message which said, "this club has allowed me to be the footballer I am today and I would not change anything."
Thanks to the club, my companions and coaches and especially to the fans," wrote Reguilon.
Reguilon is not the only player to leave Real Madrid on loan with Real Sociedad confirming the arrival of Norwegian winger Martin Odergaard on a season's loan.
The two loan deals mean that the Real Madrid "clear-out" continues with Marcos Llorente, Mateo Kovacic and Raul de Tomas all leaving the club's discipline this summer and others such as Theo Hernandez and Dani Ceballos likely to follow before the start of the season.
