WASHINGTON, March 21 -- World number 41, Zhang Shuai of China lost to Petra Martic of Croatia in the first round of the Miami Open on Thursday.

The 30-year-old Zhang lost the match 6-2, 6-1 in one hour and 22 minutes.

Martic, ranking 52nd in the world, converted on six out of 15 breaking chances through the match while Zhang only broke Martic once.

Zhang will team up with Australian player Samantha Stosur in the women's doubles in the tournament. They are seeded sixth in the event. Enditem
