MADRID, April 20 -- Real Madrid right back Alvaro Odiozola will miss the remaining six games of the season after fracturing his collar bone, the club has confirmed on Friday.
Odriozola, who joined Madrid from Real Sociedad last summer, will need an operation which will sideline him for between six weeks and two months.
The 23-year-old had to leave Friday's training session after falling badly and had to be taken to hospital where the extent of his injury was confirmed.
The injury ends a mixed season for the young defender who formed part of the Spain squad for their disappointing 2018 World Cup campaign. He has made 22 appearances for Madrid this season and scored one goal, but the competition with Spain international Dani Carvajal has limited his first team options and he has also lost his place in the Spain squad.
Odriozola had played four of Real Madrid's last five games due to a muscle injury suffered by Carvajal, but Carvajal's recovery saw him relegated to the subs' bench for Monday's disappointing 1-1 draw away to Leganes.
