KUNMING, April 24 -- No. 2 seed Zheng of China Saisai swept Slovakia's Jana Cepelova 6-2, 6-1 to advance to the round of eight in the women's singles of the ongoing Kunming Open here on Wednesday.
Zheng did not have much time to rest before moving onto the women's doubles. Zheng and her Hong Kong parter Wu Yurou took on Alexandra Cadantu of Romania and Uzbekistan's Sabina Sharipova. Zheng and Wu won the first set with ease but surrenderd a 5-2 lead in the second. They went on to lose the tiebreaker and the match 4-6, 7-5 and 10-3.
No. 4 seed Chinese player Zhu Lin also played two matches on Wednesday, but she lost both and bowed out. In the singles competition, Zhu played against Japanese Chihiro Muramatsu, who broke out from the qualifiers, going down in two sets 7-6 and 6-4. In the doubles match, Zhu and Yan Fangying lost to Yu Xiaodi and Indonesian Beatrice Gumulya in straight sets 6-4, 6-1.
