BERLIN, Dec. 16 -- Braces from Yussuf Poulsen and Timo Werner secured RB Leipzig a 4-1 victory over Mainz and Eintracht Frankfurt beat Bayer Leverkusen 2-1 in the 15th round of Bundesliga action on Sunday.

Leipzig assumed control from the start and opened the scoring as Poulsen capitalized on Kevin Kampl's square pass to tap home from close range in the 14th minute.

The hosts continued to play on the front foot and got rewarded for their efforts as Poulsen was on target again after build-up work from Werner only five minutes later. With the 2-0 lead secured Leipzig eased off and allowed Mainz to reduce the deficit in the 38th minute when Karim Onisiwo headed home Levin Oeztuali's pinpoint delivery into the box.

After the restart, Mainz increased the pressure while the hosts focused on fast breaks. The visitors lacked penetration whereas Leipzig were clinical in the final third. Werner made the most of Diego Demme's through ball in the 74th minute to make it 3-1. The German wasn't done with the scoring and wrapped up his brace with two minutes remaining in the match.

Leipzig remain in fourth place on the log while Mainz are 10th. Elsewhere, Eintracht Frankfurt returned to winning ways after beating Bayer Leverkusen 2-1 with goals from Danny da Costa and Filip Kostic.

The "Eagles" grabbed the opener through da Costa with 28 minutes played before Kostic doubled the lead in the 58th minute. Bayer Leverkusen regrouped and pulled one back as Karim Bellarabi scored 65 minutes into the game. Despite the victory, Frankfurt are fifth on the log while Leverkusen remain in 11th place.
