PARIS, Nov. 2 -- Paris Saint-Germain registered their record-extending 12th straight victory to start the Ligue 1 campaign after overcoming second-placed Lille 2-1 at home here on Friday.
Kylian Mbappe and Neymar scored for PSG late in the match. Lille's leading scorer Nicolas Pepe pulled one back through a spot kick in stoppage time.
Lille just avoided the relegation last season, but became the nearest team from PSG trailing by eight points prior to Friday's clash.
The 19-year-old Mbappe, who had come off the bench to score against arch rivals Marseille last weekend, returned to the starting line-up, while making the same effect.
He latched onto Neymar's pass to fire a curling shot in the 70th minute for his league-leading 11th goal of the season.
Then the France sensational teenager teed up Neymar, and the Brazilian star scored his ninth league goal with six minutes remaining.
PSG defender Thilo Kehrer's handball awarded Lille a penalty three minutes into stoppage time. Pepe stepped up to convert his eighth goal of the campaign.
With their 12th successive victory in hand, PSG have overshadowed Tottenham Hotspur at the start of the 1960-61 season as a new record holder in top five European leagues.
The head-to-head win has extended PSG's advantage over Lille to 11 points, and is a huge boost for the Ligue 1 powerhouse ahead of their crucial Champions League clash against Serie A outfit Napoli next week.
PSG are placed third in the group with one win, one draw and one loss, while Napoli sit one point ahead of them.
