TOKYO, Aug. 28 -- Japan's defense ministry released a defense white paper for 2018 on Tuesday, which, while summarizing the country's defense policy changes, also mentioned the so-called "increased military activities" that "constitute a threat" to regional security.

Analysts here pointed out that by playing up the regional threat, Japan is attempting to make excuses for its continued expansion of military power.

In the white paper, Japan specified its defense policies and changes in defense strategy, including the progress it made in building up its defense power, its rising military expenses, and its planned introduction of the U.S.-developed land-based Aegis Ashore missile defense system.

The annual white paper, while admitting the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK)'s commitment to denuclearization made at the summit between leaders of the United States and the DPRK is "significant," said that Japan's view of the regional threat "remains unchanged".

The report also devoted some 35 pages to making irresponsible remarks on China's national defense system and its normal and justified maritime activities in the East and South China Seas, claiming that such activities constitute "a strong concern" for Japan.

Experts here say Japan's annual defense white paper is full of stereotypes and lies.

They also note that it is Japan that is changing the status quo and triggering international concerns.
