The number of unemployed college graduates in South Korea hit a record high in May, government data showed, in the latest sign of a tightened job market for young adults.

韩国政府数据显示，5月，该国大学毕业生失业人数创新高，这是年轻人就业市场紧缩的最新迹象。

The number of jobless people with bachelor's degrees and above reached 402,000 in May, up 76,000 from a year earlier, according to the data compiled by Statistics Korea. It marked the largest monthly figure since 2000, the statistics agency said.

韩国统计局编纂的数据显示，5月，韩国拥有大学本科及以上学历的失业人数达40.2万人，比去年同期增加7.6万人，创2000年以来的月度数据新高。

The statistics agency said unemployed people with bachelor's degrees and above accounted for 35.8% of the 1.12 million total jobless people.

该统计机构称，在总共112万名失业者中，拥有本科及以上学历的人占比35.8%。

South Korea's jobless rate stood at 4 percent in May, up 0.4 percentage point from a year earlier, marking the highest rate recorded for May in 18 years.

The unemployment rate for young adults -- those aged between 15 and 29 -- was 10.5% in May, up 1.2 percentage points from a year earlier.

Finance Minister Kim Dong-yeon said the May jobs data is "shocking."
