习近平文联十大、作协九大开幕式讲话要点

11月30日，中国文学艺术界联合会第十次全国代表大会（the 10th Congress of the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles，CFLAC）、中国作家协会第九次全国代表大会（the ninth Congress of the Chinese Writers Association，CWA）在北京人民大会堂开幕。中共中央总书记、国家主席、中央军委主席习近平出席大会并发表重要讲话。

习近平主席在讲话中指出，文运同国运相牵，文脉同国脉相连。实现中华民族伟大复兴，是一场震古烁今的伟大事业，需要坚忍不拔的伟大精神，也需要振奋人心的伟大作品。

他对广大文艺工作者提出了四点希望：

第一，希望大家坚定文化自信，用文艺振奋民族精神。

The first is "to consolidate the confidence in Chinese culture and use art to inspire people."

创作出具有鲜明民族特点和个性的优秀作品，要对博大精深的中华文化有深刻的理解，更要有高度的文化自信。

To create outstanding works with vivid national characteristics and unique personal style, one must have a profound understanding of Chinese culture and a high level of cultural confidence.

实现中华民族伟大复兴，必须坚定中国特色社会主义道路自信、理论自信、制度自信、文化自信。广大文艺工作者要善于从中华文化宝库中萃取精华、汲取能量，使自己的作品成为激励中国人民和中华民族不断前行的精神力量。

To revive the nation, we must be confident in our path, in our theory and in our system as well as our culture. Artists should learn to draw essence and power from Chinese culture to create classical works to inspire people.

广大文艺工作者要把培育和弘扬社会主义核心价值观作为根本任务，坚定不移用中国人独特的思想、情感、审美去创作属于这个时代、又有鲜明中国风格的优秀作品。

Promoting socialist core values should be fundamental to artists and writers, who should firmly resort to Chinese people's thoughts, emotions and aesthetics to create works catering to the times, featuring notable Chinese elements.

第二，希望大家坚持服务人民，用积极的文艺歌颂人民。

The second is to "serve and praise the people with positive works".

人民是历史的创造者，是时代的雕塑者。广大文艺工作者要观照人民的生活、命运、情感，表达人民的心愿、心情、心声，立志创作出在人民中传之久远的精品力作。

People are the creators of history and sculptors of time. Artists should care about people's lives, voices and emotion, and create works that inspire the people and are appreciated by the people.

一切有抱负、有追求的文艺工作者都应该追随人民脚步，走出方寸天地，阅尽大千世界，让自己的心永远随着人民的心而跳动。

All artists and writers with ambitions and pursuits should step outside their own space and embrace the diversity of the world, letting their hearts beat in rhythm with the people's.

第三，希望大家勇于创新创造，用精湛的艺术推动文化创新发展。

The third expectation is to "be more innovative" .

优秀作品反映着一个国家、一个民族文化创新创造的能力和水平。中国人民不仅将为人类贡献新的发展模式、发展道路，而且将把自己在文化创新创造中取得的成果奉献给世界。

Artworks reflect a nation's soft power and creativity. China should not only provide the world a development model but a variety of great artworks.

第四，希望大家坚守艺术理想，用高尚的文艺引领社会风尚。

The last is to "hold the ideal and inspire society with high-end culture."

广大文艺工作者承担着以文化人、以文育人的职责，应该用艺术熏陶启迪人的心灵，传递向善向上的价值观。

Artists have the responsibility to educate people, inspire people and promote positive values.

在讲话的最后，习近平表示，文艺作品不是神秘灵感的产物，它的艺术性、思想性、价值取向总是通过文学家、艺术家对历史、时代、社会、生活、人物等方方面面的把握来体现。

面对生活之树，我们既要像小鸟一样在每个枝丫上跳跃鸣叫，也要像雄鹰一样从高空翱翔俯视。中国不乏生动的故事，关键要有讲好故事的能力；中国不乏史诗般的实践，关键要有创作史诗的雄心。

This is the tree of life. We should sing and hop between the branches and leaves like little birds, and also fly and take a view from high above like eagles. Vivid stories are not in short supply in China, but the key is to tell them well; deeds of an epic scale are abundant, we just need the ambition to make epic works.
