第一节:阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项。

I have never traveled by plane but I would like to and I hope to have the opportunity very soon.Anyway, one can find advantages and disadvantages when traveling by plane.
The most important advantage is that it is the fastest means of transport when referring to long-distance travel. One can arrive in Spain in almost two hours and a half by plane. He can’t even figure out how time has passed and he has arrived at his destination. He does not have to wait three days in order to arrive in Spain by coach (长途公共汽车),which makes him feel pain in his legs and feel tired because he hasn’t slept more than three hours in the last three days.
Then, think about the conditions which are at our beck and call:we are attended by a beautiful hostess who will take care of us on the flight. The comfort helps us forget about the possibility of some technical problems and of an undeserved accident.
Anyway, many people feel scared when it comes to flying in a plane. They say that the risks of losing your life in plane travel are higher than in car travel.
Apart from this disadvantage, there are people who don’t choose to travel by plane because they get altitude sickness and they think air fares are too high.
One piece of advice I would like to give to people who choose to travel by plane is that they should not even think for a second about the plane crashing.Just relax,be comfortable and everything will be all right.Planes are well equipped and advanced technology tries to offer total protection to all passengers.
56.From the text,we can learn that .
A.it’s a good choice to have long-distance travel by plane
B.there may be a few technical problems when people travel by plane
C.the author usually travels by plane
D.most people feel sick the first time they take a plane
57.What does the underlined phrase in the third paragraph mean?()
A.Ready to serve us at any time.
B.Far away from us.
C.Out of our control.
D.Necessary in our life.
58.Which of the following is NOT the reason why people don’t like to travel by plane?()
A.The risk of losing life is higher by plane.
B.Some people have altitude sickness.
C.It costs more to take a plane.
D.They can’t have a good sleep on a plane.
59.What’s the author’s attitude towards plane travel?()
A.She is in favour of it.
B.She is strongly against it.
C.She shows no concern about it.
D.She is doubtful about it.

Joe,31,has spent nearly three years in a prison in Douglas,South Africa, counting the days in prison for housebreaking.Joe made bad friends, who were always talking about stealing.Later,Joe did things bad.

On December 13,2010,the album he recorded in prison was timed for release ( 发行).He was set free for good behavior after two years and 10 months. That afternoon,Joe gave a concert at the prison to celebrate his freedom and his CD,Crazy Life.Joe got into a crowd favorite.

Car Pollution
Some cars do not run the way they should. Bad smoke from a car can get into the air. This bad smoke is called pollution.
Pollution turns the air a gray(灰色的) color. It is very dirty. It is not good for people to breathe this dirty air.
To keep pollution down, the states tests cars every two years. This test checks to make sure the cars do not pollute the air. If a car does not pass the test, the owner cannot drive it the next year.
Some car owners drive their cars even though they cannot pass the test. It is also very bad for the air.
People want to find a way to get these cars off the road. So a state program(项目) was started that now seems to be helping. In this program the States buys cars that cannot pass the test or will help pay for repairs. This program has been helping people buy better cars or fix their old ones. It has also been helping to cut down on pollution.
To meet the needs for the program, a car must be drivable and the owner must meet certain income(收入) restrictions(限制). In order to get help from the program, a motorist must have a family income of no more than 185% of the national poverty guidelines(贫困线). For a family of four, that would be no more than $32,653 each year.
The state program that takes polluting cars off the road has just finished its first year, and people say it has been successful.
For the past year, the state program has been buying cars that can’t pass the test. Some car owners get as much as $1,000 for their old ones, while others receive as much as $500 for repairs.
The cars bought by the States through the program are put out of use and sent to dismantlers(拆卸厂).
65. Cars get tested every two years to make sure ________.
A. the owners can get some money B. they can get repaired on time
C. they don’t pollute the air
D. the government can decide to buy them or not
66. A car owner can get some money from the program if he / she has ________.
A. a motor B. only one car C. a small family D. a low income
67. After being bought by the government, a car will be ________.
A. put out of use B. repaired C. tested again D. reused
D
One silly question I simply can’t understand is “How do you feel?” Usually the question I asked of a man’s action—a man on the go, walking along the street or busily working at his desk. So what do you expect him to say? He’ll probably say, “Fine, I’m all right, ” but you’ve put a bug in his ear—maybe now he’s not sure. If you are a good friend, you may have seen something in his face, or his walk, that he overlooked(忽略) that morning. It starts him worrying a little. First thing you know, he looks in a mirror to see if everything is all right, while you go merrily on your way asking someone else. “How do you feel?”
Every question has its time and place. It’s perfectly acceptable, for example, to ask “How do you feel?” if you’re visiting a close friend in hospital. But if the fellow is walking on both legs, hurrying take a train, or sitting at his desk working, it’s no time to ask him that silly question.
When George Bernard Shaw, the famous writer of plays, was in his eighties, someone asked him, “How do you feel?” Shaw put him in his place. “When you reach my age, ” he said, “either you feel all right or you’re dead. ”
68. The question “How do you feel?” seems to be correct and suitable when asked of ______.
A. a man working at his desk B. a person having lost a close friend
C. a stranger who looks worried D. a friend who is ill
69. The writer seems to feel that a busy man should______.
A. be praised for his efforts B. never be asked any question
C. not be bothered(烦扰) D. be discouraged from working so hard
70. George Bernard’s reply in the passages shows his______.
A. cheerfulness B. cleverness C. kindness D. politeness

How to Find Yourself
Do you often feel lost?Do you think you are living somebody else’s life? If yes, discover ways to find yourself by going through the following article.
71.
If you are thinking,“how to find yourself when you are lost?”,then the first thing to do is to have a rest from everything—work, personal life and all worldly things.Give time to yourself to think why you seem lost.Is it because of over work? Is it because you are not leading a life that you want to? Or is it because you are not satisfied with the people or things around you? Try to find answers to these questions to determine the cause behind your restlessness.
72.
For once, instead of being the way others want you to be,be yourself.Look within and find yourself in you.Think about the things that you would want to do if you didn’t have any family obligations or any money issues.Think about the kind of relationship you would want to be in,the place that you would like to stay in,the kind of lifestyle you would like to lead,if you didn’t have the society or people around you, judging all the time.If you really want to know how to find inner peace, then think, what you would want others to describe you as—an honest person? Or adventurous? Or loving,or realistic? Once you look within, you will know the answer and then try to be exactly that.
73.
Thinking deeply about the past, the time or situations when you were the happiest,is another way to find yourself.Think what you were doing or with whom you were, when you were the happiest. This will help you to identify things that you want to do in life that make you happy and also certain people whose company you enjoy.
74.
Knowing yourself and determining what you to do with your life will not come to you in a day or two.Discovering oneself is an ongoing process and it can take months or sometimes even years to truly find yourself. So,it’s important that you maintain a written record of all your feelings and thoughts, which you can go through at a later stage.Pour all your emotions and feelings about life in it and who knows may be one day going through it,you will find yourself.
75.
Once you have discovered what you want to do with your life, make a move for change and self-improvement.Even if it means taking up small things such as dancing or painting,go ahead and do it.If you want a career change, plan and take steps so that it can take place smoothly. If you are stuck in a bad relationship and find yourself unable to mend it,break away.At the beginning, you may find yourself slightly unbalanced, but with time everything will be fine.
It is very important for you to truly find yourself, before it is too late.If you do not find yourself now,you will spend your life with somebody you do not even know,i.e.yourself.
A.Act
B.Accept Yourself
C.Keep a Diary
D.Think about the Past
E.Focus on Yourself
F.Give yourself a break
