第一节 阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(ABCD)中,选出最佳选项,并涂在答题卡上Since smoking is considered to be very dangerous to the health, it is especially difficult for children to buy cigarettes. Our shopkeeper, Mr. Soames, has always been careful about this. If his customers are very young, he always asks them whom the cigarettes are for.

One day a little girl walked into his shop and asked twenty cigarettes. She had the exact amount of money in her hand and seemed very sure of herself. Mr Soames was so surprised by her confident manner that he forgot to ask his usual questions. He asked her what kind of cigarettes she wanted. The girl replied quickly and handed him the money. While he was giving her the cigarettes, Mr. Soames said laughingly that she was so young and she should hide the packet in her pocket so as not to be found by a policeman. But the little girl did not seem to find this very funny. Without even smiling she took the packet and walked towards the door. Suddenly she stopped, turned round, and looked steadily at Mr. Soames. There was a moment's deathly silence and Mr. Soames wondered what she was going to say. All at once, in a clear voice, the girl said, "My dad is a policeman." And with that she walked quickly out of the shop.

Neighbors play an important role in our lives. Their lifestyle, friends, and social habits can have a strong influence on our lives. So it’s a good idea to get along well with neighbors and build a better relationship that will last for many years to come. But how should you get along with your neighbors?

When you hear of a special need you can meet, do it, such as sitting with a sick child while your neighbor goes to work or taking an elderly parent to a doctor’s appointment when their car won’t start.

If you hear that someone close by is ill, has an accident, or is out of work, give him or her a hot meal or a fresh dessert. Your kindness will add a special feeling during a difficult time. If your neighbor is cutting down a tree or building a doghouse, offer helping hands to him or her. There is no better way to build relationships. Besides, you never know when the favor might be returned.

Exchange holiday cards, gifts or traditions. Invite your neighbors over for a cup of coffee or lunch. A backyard barbecue can be a great way to share food and fun. If they’ve watched your kids grow up or been concerned about your family events, they may want to share these special events.

Plan a party. Invite all your neighbors to your party. Planning and carrying out the activity helps everyone to know and understand each other.

Your neighbors are like your family in many ways since you have to live with them, or near them for a long time. Appreciate their strong points and ignore weak points, and everyone will get along well.

  50. The purpose of the first paragraph is to _______.

  A. introduce how you can get along well with your friends

  B. explain the importance of getting along well with your neighbors

  C. show how to make friends with your new neighbors

  D. list the advantages of building strong family relationships

  D. lend them money when their parents are ill

  52. What does the passage mainly talk about?

  A. Tips on how to form a healthy lifestyle.

C .The importance of being helpful.

  D. Tips on how to get along with your neighbors.

I live in Hollywood. You may think people in such an attractive, fun-filled place are happier than others. If so, you have some mistaken ideas about the nature of happiness.

Many intelligent people still equate happiness with fun. The truth is that fun and happiness have little or nothing in common. Fun is what we experience during an act. Happiness is what we experience after an act. It is a deeper, more long-lasting emotion. Going to an amusement park or ball game, watching a movie or television, are fun activities that help us relax, temporarily forget our problems and maybe even laugh. But they do not bring happiness, because their positive effects end when the fun ends.

I have often thought that if Hollywood stars have a role to play, it is to teach us that happiness has nothing to do with fun. These rich, beautiful individuals have constant access to exciting parties, fancy cars, expensive homes, everything that spells “happiness”. But in memoir(回忆录) after memoir, celebrities reveal the unhappiness hidden beneath all their fun: depression, alcoholism, drug addiction, broken marriages, troubled children, and long-time loneliness.

The way people hold on to the belief that a fun-filled, pain-free life equates happiness actually decreases their chances of ever attaining real happiness. If fun and pleasure are equated with happiness, then pain must be equated with unhappiness. But, in fact, the opposite is true: More times than not, things that lead to happiness involve some pain.

As a result, many people avoid the very efforts that are the source of true happiness. They fear the pain inevitably brought by such things as marriage, raising children, professional achievement, religious commitment, charitable work and self-improvement.

  57. According to the passage, “fun activities” _______.

  A. are the things we do before we find happiness

  B. could provide long-last positive effects

  C. will lead us to the true happiness

  D. may help us relax and forget our problems sometimes

  58. In the author’s opinion, those Hollywood stars _______.

  A. possess happiness because they are rich and famous

  B. experience almost all kinds of happy things

  C. tell us happiness isn’t equal to fun using their own stories

  D. have to suffer a lot before they become successful

  59. It is difficult for people to find real happiness because _______.

  A. they believe happiness is the fun life without pain

  B. they find pain equals unhappiness

  C. they fear to lose what they already have in life

  D. They are afraid all their efforts were in vain

  60. The main purpose of the text is to _______.

  A. describe the difference between happiness and fun

  B. show the true meaning of happiness

  C. encourage people to pursue fun activities

  D. advise people to find their real life

As you know, our class will have a speech contest on environmental protection with Class 28 on Jan 14. Before the contest, we will invite our foreign teacher Tanya to give us a talk on the environmental problem. She will also tell us about Canada’s environmental conditions and how Canada protects the environment.

The report will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 10 in our classroom. I’m sure we can get enough information from her talk to make good preparations for the coming contest. Everyone should be there on time. Listen to the report and make full notes at the same time.

By the way, we will have a discussion after the report.

  That’s all. Thank you.
