Sometimes your biggest weakness can become your biggest strength. Take, for example, the story of one 10-year-old boy, who decided to study judo (柔道) despite the fact that he had lost his left arm in a car accident.
The boy began lessons with an old Japanese judo master. The boy was doing well, so he couldn’t understand why, after three months of training the master had taught him only one move. “Sir,” the boy finally said. “Shouldn’t I be learning more moves?” “This is the only move you know, but this is the only move you’ll ever need to know,” the master replied. Not quite understanding, but believing in his teacher, the boy kept training.
Several months later, the master took the boy to his first tournament (联赛). Surprising himself, the boy easily won his first two matches. The third match proved to be more difficult, but after some time, his opponent(对手) became impatient and charged; the boy deftly (敏捷地) defended and used his one move to win the match. The boy became the champion at last.
On the way home, the boy and his master reviewed every move in every match. Then the boy gathered the courage to ask what was really in his mind, “How did I win the tournament with only one move?” “You won for two reasons,” the master answered. “First, you’ve almost mastered one of the most difficult moves in all of judo. And second, the only known defense for that move is for your opponent to grasp your left arm.”
The boy’s biggest weakness had become his biggest strength.
54. What does the underlined word “charged” mean in the passage?
A. claimed.
B. attacked
C. rushed.
D. hit.
55. Why could the boy win the tournament with only one move?
A. Because he had almost mastered one of the most difficult moves.
B. Because his right arm was quite strong.
C. Because his opponents were impatient.
D. Because he was brave and deft.
56. The best title for the passage might be ______.
A. A boy without left arm
B. A good Judo master
C. Judo tournament
D. Weakness or Strength
D
Today just as technology changes the face of industry, farms have undergone(经历)an“agricultural revolution”. On the farm of today, machines provide almost all the power.
One of the most important benefits will be the farm computer.
A few forwardlooking farmers are already using computers to help them run their farms more efficiently. The computers help them keep more accurate records so they can make better decisions on what crops to plant, how much livestock to buy, when to sell their products, and how much profit they can expect. Many computer companies have been developing special computer programs just for farmers. Programs are being written for hog producers, grain farmers, potato farmers, and dairy farmers. In the future, farmers will be able to purchase computer programs made to their needs. Because of the growing importance of computers on the farm, students at agricultural colleges are required to take computer classes in addition to their normal agricultural courses. There can be no doubt that farmers will rely on computers even more in the future. While the oldtime farms depended on horse power, and modern farms depend on machine power, farms of the future will depend on computer power.
Another technological advance which is still in the experimental stage is the robot, a real“mechanized(机械化)hired hand”that will be able to move and, in some ways, think like a human being. Agricultural engineers believe that computeraided robots will make startling changes in farming before the end of the century. Unlike farmers of the present, farmers of the future will find that many daytoday tasks will be done for them. Scientists are now developing robots that will be able to shear(修剪)sheep, drive tractors, and harvest fruit. Even complex(复杂的)jobs will be done by robots. For example, in order to milk their cows, farmers must first drive them into the barn, then connect them to the milking machines, watch the machines, and disconnect them when they are finished. In the future, this will all be done by robots. In addition, when the milking is completed, the robots will automatically check to make sure that the milk is pure. The complete automation(自动化)of the farm is far in the future, but engineers expect that some robots will be used before long.
57.Which sentence carries the main idea of the whole passage?
A.The first sentence of the first paragraph.
B.The first sentence of the second paragraph.
C.The first sentence of the third parapraph.
D.The last sentence of the second paragraph.
.Which of the following statements is true?
A.Farmers in the future will depend totally on computers.
B.Both computers and robots have been in use on today's farms.
C.Farmers mainly use machines on their farms at present.
D.Students at agricultural colleges must take computer classes because they can do nothing without the help of computers on today's farms.
59.According to the engineers, ________will be done by robots in the near future.
A.all farm work
B.milking cows
C.most of the farm work
D.some farm work
.What is the best title for the whole passage?
A.Computer, Farmers' Best Friend.B.Farmers in The Future.
C.The Agricultural Revolution.D.Computers and Robots.第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
根据短文内容,从下框的A—F选项中选出能概括每一段主题的最佳选项。选项中有一项为多余选项。A. Surround Yourself with English
B. Listen to English Music
C. Log on the English website
D. Watch English Films
E. Use all of your Resources
F. Speak without Fear
61________
The biggest problem most people face in learning a new language is their own fear. They worry that they won’t say things correctly or that they will look stupid so they don’t talk at all.
Don’t do this.
The fastest way to learn anything is to do it – again and again until you get it right.
Like anything, learning English requires practice. Don’t let a little fear stop you from getting what you want.
62 ________
Even if you study English at a language school it doesn’t mean you can’t learn outside of class.
Using as many different sources, methods and tools as possible, will allow you to learn faster.
There are many different ways you can improve your English, so don’t limit yourself to only one or two. The internet is a fantastic resource for virtually anything, but for the language learner it's perfect.
63__________
The absolute best way to learn English is to put yourself in it. Take notes in English, put English books around your room, listen to English language radio broadcasts, watch English news, movies and television. Speak English with your friends whenever you can. The more English material that you have around you, the faster you will learn and the more likely it is that you will begin “thinking in English.”
64 _________
This is not only a fun way to learn but it is also very effective. By watching English movies (especially those with English subtitles) you can expand your vocabulary and hear the flow of speech from the actors. If you listen to the news you can also hear different accents.
65________
Another very effective method of learning English is singing. In fact, it is often used as a way of improving comprehension. The best way to learn is to get the lyrics (words) to the songs you are listening to and try to read them as the artist sings. There are several good internet sites where one can find the words for most songs. This way you can practice your listening and reading at the same time.

Some believe that they should have friends related to their life. Whenever they have difficulty dealing with problems in terms of life, their friends can help them get rid of the problems. In addition, others agree that they should have some friends who can listen to them attentively and share their bitterness and joy.
What I want to stress is that each of us should have a true friend. To make friends, we should try to remember the names of the people we contact and learn not to judge people by their appearances.
Besides, we need to be friendly and care about them. When disagreement does occur, it's wise to talk it over with others. In brief, making true friends can really enable us to improve ourselves.
