An earthquake is one of the most common natural disasters . It may cause great damage . So it is wise to learn some simple safety tips to protect yourself or you family members .
Fragile items , like those made of glass are easily broken and should usually be placed on a lower surface , near the ground instead of placing them on cupboards higher up . Never place them near your bed , sofas and other furniture where you would be sitting or lying down . When there is strong movement , these pieces will fall on the floor directly and not on you .
There is strong chance of short circuits(短路)and fire breakouts during an earthquake . Make sure you turn off electrical connections and gas immediately when an earthquake happens .
During an earthquake, lie beneath an object that is not easily damaged. Do not go near objects that could directly fall on you. Never use the elevator to go down. Stay inside until the shaking stops and it is safe to go outside. Research has shown that most injuries happen when people inside buildings try to go out. Use the staircases at all times.
If you are outdoors, do not take shelter under a tree, streetlights, electric poles or tall buildings. If you are driving, stop your car and stay in a safe place. Do not park your car under a tree or any tall object.
If trapped in debris (瓦砾堆), cover your mouth with a handkerchief or clothing. Tap on a pipe or wall so rescuers can find you. Use a whistle (哨子) if one is available. Never shout for help. Shouting can cause you to breathe in dangerous amounts of dust. Do not light a match because you may burn yourself. Do not move about or kick up dust.

As computers become more popular in China , Chinese people are increasingly relying on computer keyboards to input Chinese characters . But if they use the computer too much , they may end up forgetting the exact strokes(笔画)of each Chinese character when writing on paper . Experts suggest people , especially students , write by hand more .
Do you write by hand more or type more ? In Beijing , students start using a computer as early as primary school . And computer dependence is more widespread among university students . Almost all their assignments and essays are typed on a computer .
All the students interviewed say they usually use a computer .
It’s faster and easier to correct if using a computer . And that’s why computers are being applied more and more often to modern education . But when people are taking stock in computers increasingly , problems appear .
“ When I’m writing with a pen , I find I often can’t remember how to write a character , though I feel I’m familiar with it .”
“ I’m not in the mood to write when faced with a pen and paper .”
Many students don’t feel this is something to worry about . Now that it’s more convenient and efficient to write on a computer , why bother to handwrite ?
Many educators think differently . Shi Liwei , the headmaster of a famous primary school in the capital said “ Chinese characters enjoy both practical and aesthetic(审美的)value . But those characters typed with computer keyboards only maintain their practical value . All the artistic beauty of the characters is lost . And handwriting contains the writer’s emotion . Through one’s handwriting , people can get to know one’s thinking and personality . Beautiful writing will give people a better first impression of them .”
To encourage students to handwrite more , many primary schools in Beijing have made writing classes compulsory(必修的)and in universities , some professors are asking students to turn in their homework and essays written by hand .
61. Which of the following can best serve as the title of the passage ?

D. Practical and Aesthetic Value of Chinese Characters

B. they find it not easy to remember how to write a character
C. they can correct the mistakes they make quickly and conveniently
D. computers have become a trend and fashion in China
63. Which of the following statements is NOT true of the advantages of handwriting ?

A new study gives us the warning that about 30% of the world’s people may not have enough water by the year 2025.
A private American organization called Population Action International did the new study . It says more than three-hundred-thirty-five-million people lack(缺乏) enough water now . The people live in twenty-eight countries . Most of the countries are in Africa or the Middle East .
P-A-I researcher Robert Engelman says by the year 2025 , about three-thousand-million people may lack water . At least 18 more countries are expected to have serious water problems . The demand for water keeps increasing . Yet the amount of water on Earth stays the same .
Mr. Engelman says the population(人口) in countries that lack water is growing faster than in other parts of the world . He says population growth in these countries will continue to increase .
The report says lack of water in the future may result in several problems. It may increase health problems. Lack of water often means drinking waters not safe. Mr. Engelman says there are problems all over the world because of diseases, such as cholera(霍乱), which are carried in water. Lack of water may also result in more international conflict(冲突). Countries may have to compete for water in the future. Some countries now get sixty percent of their fresh water from other countries. This is true of Egypt, the Netherlands, Cambodia, Syria, Sudan, and Iraq. And the report says lack of water would affect(影响) the ability of developing to improve their economies. This is because new industries often need a large amount of water when they are beginning.
The Population Action International study gives several solutions to the water problem. One way, it says, is to find ways to use water for more than one purpose. Another way is to teach people to be careful not to waste water. A third way is to use less water of agriculture.
The report also says long-term (长期的)solutions to the water problem must include controls on population growth. It says countries cannot provide clean water unless they slow population growth by limiting the number of children people have.

A. Lack of water may also result from international conflict
B. There is connection between providing clean water and slowing population growth
C. The ability of developing has nothing to do with lack of water.
D. It is not known whether diseases have something to do with lack of water
