PARIS, April 22 (Xinhua) -- Edinson Cavani's 31st league goal of the season earned defending champions Paris Saint-Germain a 2-0 home win against Montpellier on Saturday, sending the club to the top of Ligue 1 table past Monaco, who have two more games in hand.
It was also Cavani's 44th goal in all competitions this season. The Uruguayan striker put Blaise Matuidi's left-flank cross into the net on 29 minutes.
Three minutes into the second half, Cavani back-heeled Angel Di Maria, who fired a powerful shot outside the box for his fifth goal in last five games.
Monaco, UEFA Champions League semifinalists, can regain the league's top position by beating Lyon on Sunday.
Bordeaux moved up to fourth place with a 2-0 home victory over bottom side Bastia, who also faced points deduction due to fans' pitch invasion to attack their opponents in last weekend's home encounter with Lyon.
Lorient continued their good form in recent weeks to crush Metz 5-1 at home, tasting their fourth win in five matches and keeping a two-point margin above the relegation zone.
In other games, Caen lost to Nantes 2-0, Dijon edged Angers 3-2, and Lille beat Guingamp 3-0.
