Some time ago I discovered that one of my chairs had a broken leg. I didn’t think there would be any difficulty in getting it mended, as there are a whole lot of antique(古董) shops near my home. So I left home one morning carrying the chair with me. I went into the first shop expecting a friendly reception(接待). I was quite wrong. The man wouldn’t even look at my chair.
The second shop, though slightly more polite, was just the same, and the third and the fourth, so I decided that my approach must be wrong.
I entered the fifth shop with a plan in my mind. I placed the chair on the floor and said to the shopkeeper, “Would you like to buy a chair?” He looked it over carefully and said, “Yes, not a bad chair. How much do you want for it, sir?” “Twenty pounds,” I said. ”OK,” he said, “I’ll give you twenty pounds.” “It’s got a slightly broken leg,” I said. “Yes, I saw that, it’s nothing.”
Everything was going according to the plan and I was getting excited. “What will you do with it?” I asked. “Oh, it will be easy to sell once the repair is done.” “I’ll buy it,” I said. “What do you mean? You’ve just sold it to me,” he said. “Yes, I know, but I’ve changed my mind. I am sorry. I’ll give you twenty-seven pounds for it.” “ You must be crazy,” he said. Then, suddenly the penny dropped. “I know what you want. You want me to repair your chair.” “You’re right,” I said. “And what would you have done if I had walked in and said, ‘Would you mend this chair for me?’” “I wouldn’t have agreed to do it,” he said. “We don’t do repairs, not enough money in it and too much trouble. But I’ll mend this for you, shall we say for a fiver?” He was a very nice man and was greatly amused by the whole thing.
61. We can learn from the text that in the first shop the writer _____.
A. was rather impolite
B. was warmly received

D. asked the shopkeeper to repair his chair
62. The expression “the penny dropped” in the last paragraph means the shopkeeper_____.
A. changed his mind B. accepted the offer
C. saw the writer’s purpose D. decided to help the writer
63. How much did the writer pay?

Brisbane, the capital of Queensland, is a lively city that is home to many different types of tourist attractions. In its early stages, the city grew as the agricultural and mining (采矿) industries grew, until it developed into the cultural city that it is today. It is also the third largest city in Australia.
Brisbane is a river city, although close to the coast, with the Brisbane River running through it. It is surrounded by hills and full of bridges. It is also very easy to get to a number of attractions such as the Gold Coast and the Sunshine Coast from Brisbane.
Brisbane has a number of theatres including the Lyric Theatre, Cremorne Theatre and the Playhouse Theatre which are part of the Queensland Performing Arts Centre in South Bank.
The area of South Bank is popular with visitors and locals especially for its relaxed parkland and man-made beach area which is popular with all ages. During the evening this area is very popular for romantic walks and the many shows.
Another place that is very popular with visitors especially young people is the suburb (郊区) of Fortitude Valley. It is home to the amazing China-town, great restaurants, popular nightclubs and bars and so on. It’s not a suburb for those who like peace and quiet.
Brisbane is a great place to cycle, with wonderful tracks (自行车道) near and along the river. If you get tired along the way you can always get on a bus or the City Cat (central area transport service). You’d better avoid the time of day when most people are traveling to or from work, because you won’t be allowed on with a bike at that time.
Brisbane offers plenty of things to do with activities and tours such as hot air ballooning, rock climbing, and even climbing the Brisbane Story Bridge. For more information about Brisbane tours, please click here.

It’s never too late to share a kindness story even when you are about to go on holiday.
It begins with a hobby of mine — knitting(编织). My grandma and mum spent much time teaching me to knit many years ago. And it has always been an interest of mine, making things for people, and over the years I have made lots of things for family and friends. I have always found it very pleasant and relaxing.
Now my biggest enjoyment of knitting is making large blankets. Some square patterned and some embroidered (刺绣人). Over a long period of time I have managed to make about 15 and have kept them in storage but have always hoped one day I would be able to give them away free to people that needed them. A few years ago I found out that Oxfam would not be able to take them off my hands for me and send them abroad so I have just kept on making them, and continued putting them in storage as I have always believed one day they will become useful for something and help someone.
Today an act of kindness happened. Just in passing I spoke to a friend of a friend and my blankets came up in conversation. Now, as I expected, some of my blankets have gone to an elderly couple for extra warmth!
This really made me smile that I could contribute to this act of kindness and it just goes to show how something so little can be appreciated (感激) so much — and the feeling you get for that is AMAZING!
I hope one day I will be able to send my blankets abroad as an act of kindness to help poor children or adults. It is important to remember that we should always be grateful for what we do have in life as some people are not always as lucky as us. If we continue carrying out these acts of kindness that we do to make anyone smile, it will make us a better person. No one can take away that feeling you receive when you do a true act of kindness for someone.
I am so grateful that I have been able to carry out some acts of kindness lately. They have really made me smile. And being able to help others also helps us to improve ourselves.
68. The author has stored some knitting of large blankets in order to _____.
A. sell them for more money
B. keep them as souvenirs
C. donate them to people that needed them
D. give them as gifts to her mother and grandmother
69. What does the last but one paragraph imply?
A. A true act of kindness for someone makes people experience more happiness.
B. We should be thankful for those who help us out when we are in trouble.
C. One should make his life longer by doing acts of kindness.
D. Everyone should try his best to do acts of kindness.
70. Which of the following would be the best title for the passage?
A. My favorite hobby B. Blankets of warmth
C. Help those in need D. An act of kindness
Good study habits will contribute to a successful academic future. Good study habits lead to good grades, and good grades lead to applications for better colleges and universities. This in turn will lead to a great career.
To be successful, the first thing you need to do is to take responsibility for your actions. You are the only one who can decide your own important things and how to use your time. Your actions today will decide what will happen tomorrow and even in the near future.
Your success rests in your own hands. Do not be influenced by others. Be a leader, not a follower. Do not allow your friends to tell you what is important. Keep friends who lead you towards your goals, not away from them.
The most important thing to learn to succeed in the classroom is to make full use of your time outside the classroom. Review your class notes and the proper chapters (章节) in your textbooks. Different people work better at different times. Some students work better in the morning, while some can study better in the afternoon, or at night. Nightly review of your notes is a great idea and will help you understand your lessons to a much greater degree. This review will save time in the long run. If you study in the morning, plan to study your hardest subjects first. If you prepare for your lessons in advance, you will be more relaxed in classes.
Set the more important things into your plan, have a to-do list and put the most important project first. Once this is done, move to the second most important project. Crossing off each project as you finish will give you a sense of achievement.
Choose a study place where you can be comfortable and pay attention to other things that help to improve your productivity (效率). For example, can you study well with soft music in the background?
Always challenge yourself. Do not be satisfied with your own school textbooks. Ask questions and do your own research. Share your knowledge and listen to others. When you share your knowledge, you help others increase their knowledge. As an unexpected result, when you help others, you learn more.
Always seek solutions to problems. If you have difficulty understanding something in the book, read it again. If you still cannot understand it, ask the teacher for help. Make sure to look for help immediately or you may fall behind.
When you put your best effort into you work, you are already a success! When you follow these study habits successfully, you will develop a sense of satisfaction. This will provide you with a strong feeling of pride because of your achievement. Your good grades will give you confidence for the future. These habits will contribute to a successful and happy future!
