Football is, I believe, the most popular game in England: one has only to go to one of the important matches to see this. Rich and poor, young and old, one can see them all there, shouting for their teams. One of the most surprising things about football in England is the great knowledge of the game which even the smallest boy seems to have. He can tell you the names of the players in most of the important teams. He has pictures of them and knows the results of large numbers of matches. He will tell you who he thinks will win such a match, and his opinion is usually as good as that of men three or four times of his age.

Most schools in England take football seriously(认真地)— much more seriously than nearly all European schools, where lessons are all that are important and games are left for the children themselves. In England it is believed that education(教育)is not only a matter of filling a boy’s mind with facts in the classroom; education also means the training of character by means of games, especially team games, where the boy or girl has to learn to work with others for his or her team instead of working for himself or herself alone. Therefore the school plans games and matches for its students. Football is a good team game. It is good both for the body and the mind. That is why it is every school’s game in England.

  64. In England, boy’s opinion of a match is often _______.

  A. as good as that of a man

  B. worse that that of man

  C. three or four times better than that of a man

  D. worth thinking three or four times

  65. In England, education means _______.

  A. filling a boy’s mind with stories

  B. more than the teaching of knowledge

  C. the teaching of knowledge only

  D. training character by means of football games

  66. Football games are very popular in England among _______.

  A. all people

  B. adults

  C. boys only

  D. boys and girls

  67. From the passage, we learn that _______.

  A. only some schools in England have football games

  B. England is better than all the European countries

  C. football is more important than lessons

  D. schools in England use football games for the training of character

  D

Sweetest Day is celebrated on the third Saturday in October as a day to make someone happy. It is an occasion(时候)which offers all of us an opportunity to remember not only the sick, the aged, and children who have lost their parents, but also friends, workmates, relatives and neighbors whose helpfulness and kindness we have enjoyed.

Over 60 years ago, when a Cleveland man noticed that some people, such as children who lost their parents and patients who lay in bed, too often felt forgotten, he came up with the idea of showing them that they were remembered. He did this by giving them small gifts. With the help of his friends and neighbors, he gave those people small gifts on a Saturday in October. Later, other Clevelanders began to take part in the celebration, which came to be called “Sweetest Day”. Over time, the Sweetest Day idea of spreading cheer to the poor, the sick and children who had lost their parents was broadened to include everyone, and became an occasion for remembering others with a kind act or a small gift. Soon the idea spread to other cities all over the USA.

Sweetest Day is not based on any single group’s religious beliefs or on a family relationship. It

is a reminder that a thoughtful word or deed enriches life and gives it meaning.

Because for many people remembering takes the form of gift giving, Sweetest Day offers us the opportunity to show others that we care, in a positive way.

  68. What can we learn from the passage?

  A. Sweetest Day is a day to make others happy.

  B. Sweetest Day is just an occasion to care about disabled people.

  C. Sweetest Day is an occasion for lovers to express love.

  D. Sweetest Day is celebrated on the third Sunday in October.

  69. What is Cleveland?

  A. An island.

  B. A country.

  C. A village in England.

  D. A city in America.

  70. What do most people usually do to show their care to others according to the passage?

  A. They give money.

  B. They give gifts.

  C. They send regards.

  D. They offer help.

  71. The underlined (下划线) word “It” refers to _______.

  A. Sweetest Day

  B. a single group

  C. religious beliefs

  D. a family relationship

  E

I grew up knowing I was different, and I hated it. I was born with a cheft(分裂的) lip, and when I started to go to school, my classmates were constantly laughing at me---a little girl with a misshapen lip and crooked(歪的) nose. I couldn’t even blow up a balloon without holding my nose.

When my schoolmates asked, “What happened to your lip?” I’d tell them that I’d fallen as a baby and cut it on a piece of glass. Somehow it seemed more acceptable to have suffered an accident than to have been born different.

Then I entered the second grade, and Mrs. Leonard’s class. She was round and pretty. Everyone adored her. But no one came to love her more than I did. And for a special reason.

The time came for the yearly(每年的) “hearing tests”. I could hardly hear anything out of one ear. I had learned to watch other children and raised my hand when they did during group testing. The “whisper test” required a different deception(骗术) : each child would go to the door of the classroom, turn sideways and block one ear with a finger. And the teacher would whisper something from her desk, which the child would repeat. Then the same thing was done for the other ear. Nobody checked to see how tightly the untested ear was being blocked, so I pretended to block mine.

My turn came. I turned my bad ear to her, filling up the other ear solidly with my finger, and then gently backed my finger out enough to be able to hear. I waited, and then heard the words that God had surely put into her mouth ; seven words that changed my life forever.

Mrs. Leonard, the pretty teacher I adored, said softly, “I wish you were my little girl.”

  72. The author lied to her classmates because she _______.

  A. didn’t want to tell others her story

  B. wanted to get sympathy from them

  C. wanted to make her cleft lip more acceptable

  D. wanted to be a special person

  73. We can learn from the “whisper test” that _______.

  A. everyone would be tested in groups

  B. there was something wrong with one of the author’s ears

  C. the teacher would check whether the untested ear was blocked

  D. the students had to be face to face with the teacher

  74. Which of the following is TRUE, according to the text?

  A. An accident caused the author’s cleft lips.

  B. No one loved Mrs. Leonard except the author.

  C. Mrs. Leonard’s words had a huge effect on the author.

  D. The author’s deception didn’t work in the “ whisper test”.

  75. What is the best title for the text?

  A. A teacher Who Makes Others Confident

  B. The Words of God Saved Me

  C. A Small Expression of Love That Went a Long Way

  D. An Unforgettable Test That Corrected My Mistake

  第二节 (共5小题; 每小题2分, 满分10分)

  根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。

You have been learning English for about 7 years.

  76

And you still can’t make yourself understood in English. However, you love learning English. How can you learn English well?

Many people have asked this question.

  77

Here are several tips for learning English.

  ●

  78

First of all, you must want to learn. If you are not interested in learning English, no class will help you and no book will help you. So you have to be honest with yourself. Ask yourself, “Do I really want to learn English?” If you can’t answer “yes” to this question, it is better for you to set English aside until you’re ready and willing to learn.

  ● Set goals (目标).

To learn English well, you must set some goals.

  79

It will also help you to see your progress. Ask yourself, “What are my goals? What areas would I like to improve?” Think about what your goals are, and review once in a while to see that you are making progress toward your goals.

  ● Practice, practice, and practice.

After you have set your goals, you have a better idea of what you need to practice. Just like the athlete whose goal is the Olympics must train daily, you as a language learner must practice language every day to make progress toward your goal.

  80

  A. Want to learn.

  B. I think it is not easy to learn it well.

  C. Make friends with some Americans online.

  D. Reading is a very good way to learn new words.

  E. The answers are as different as the people asking the question.

  F. The more you practice, the more progress you will make.

  G. Having goals will help you remember what areas you want to work on.

  修改:在错的词下划一横线,并在其下面写出修改后的词。

  Dear Mary,

I receive your E-mail just now. Don’t worry about me. I’m getting on well my research work in the lab. But to my great surprise you say you will give up learning English. The reason is because you have not done well in it recently and you have lost interests. I’m afraid I can’t agree on you. I know it is difficult to learn English, but English is wide used in the world today. It will be an important tool in our future work. Beside, it is becoming more and more importantly in your daily life. If you study hard, you won’t succeed. Do remember where there is a will there is a way. I’m looking forward to hear good news from you.
